Diary 2011

The constantly changing colours and atmosphere that the progress through the months and seasons bring to the landscape are to me an ongoing source of interest and inspiration.
In this exhibition I have tried to convey this by selecting paintings which depict these changes, and by marking the month or season in which the painting was made. Some were painted on the spot, to capture the, at times, fleeting light and colours. Others were painted later using sketches made at the time, when I must strive to re-capture that special moment.
My linocut designs also use natural forms. This medium requires a pared-down simplicity of design and sharpness of execution which is satisfyingly different from watercolour. I hope that the two media, exhibited together, will provide an interesting contrast for the viewer.
